Expectations
Keys to success:
Participation and engagement in classroom discussions and activities. You will be asked to stretch and think in ways you may not be used to and that may not be comfortable at first. But you are ultimately responsible for your experience in this class. Own your learning.
Organization is essential. You will need a 2" three ring binder filled with lined paper and 4 subject dividers. Bring it to class with you EVERY DAY. You will be creating a daily note sheet that serves as a record of each class, and includes a closing reflection that helps you to explore the larger meaning and connections within each lesson. These will keep you organized during each unit, and will prove invaluable for unit tests as well as the final exam at the end of the year.
Develop good academic habits and routines. You MUST do your homework every night in preparation for the next day's class. Learn to manage your time and pace your projects. Practice effective reading and note taking skills. These fundamental habits will ensure your future academic success!
Attendance is critical! What we do each day in class goes far beyond what you can read in a textbook. We will query, we will examine, we will ponder, we will evaluate…and we will do this in community. That experience simply cannot be made up. Should you miss a day, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and acquire any material and instruction from the class website, a friend, or schedule an appointment to stay after school with me.
